Transitioning To Spring With Fall/Winter Pieces

Spring is in the air and I am super ecstatic about it. For most of us this means that we're saying goodbye to frigid, gloomy days and hello to more crisper, brighter weather. As a result we're adjusting to the change by adjusting our wardrobe.

I don't know about you but I like to consider myself pretty frugal and I am not the type to go out and buy a whole new spring wardrobe just because. I  prefer to rework existing pieces that I have from previous seasons. For this spring season I plan on staying on trend (while saving money) by mixing last season's pieces like prints, bright color, and leather with typical spring basics like blazers, denim, skirts/dresses, and shorts. Check out some of my favorite transitional pieces that will have you looking great without having to spend a whole lot of moo-la on a whole new wardrobe.

Blazers
Blazers are great for replacing those heavy winter jackets and coats whenever you still want to remain warm and cozy on those cool spring mornings and evenings.

Chunky Knit Wear
Sweaters and cardigans are a great go to layering piece year round. They are perfect for adding just the right amount of light weight coziness without the risk of getting too warm.

Leather...or Pleather
Leather/pleather works great when wanting to add a sleek, hard edge to soft flirty feminine pieces like skirts/dresses and anything floral, lace, or sparkly.

Print, Print, & More Print
I love a good print. My favorites are anything striped or polka dot which are all on trend right now. I'm also noticing a lot of animal, floral, plaid, and tribal prints. Mixing and matching many of these patterns together seem to be all the rage right now and for the upcoming spring season.

70's Inspired
For the most part my favorite pieces from the 70's inspired trend are semi-high waisted wide leg trousers/pants/jeans ,silky flowy blouses, and semi chunky wedged shoes. I'm a little careful with dressing head-to-toe in 70's inspired pieces because it can look a little costumey.

Rich Colour
Whether it's in style or not I love wearing color during every season of the year. Personally speaking color will always be "in style." It makes what seems like a gloomy day outside a much happier and brighter one. You can go the simple route and pair color with a neutral or be a little more daring and pair color with color or print.

    1. @ Cathy...Yes the blazers are awesome! I'm definitely a big fan of them. The gold blazer is from zara.com (fall '11) I believe. The hot pink one I'm not so sure but I have seen similar ones at Forever21, Express, & local thrift shops.
